Catherine Khamnouane (b. 1996, Dallas) is a Baltimore-basedinterdisciplinary artist and educator. In 2018, she received a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she returned as a faculty member. My father was born in a country that no longer exists.
Like my family’s immigration story, human nature is a microcosm.
Whether it be the Gulf Stream or a trail of ants, natural systems remind us that we are bound not only to nature but to our nature. War, conflict, and aggression may be intrisic aspects of humanity, but so are adaptation and the capacity for hope.
Through sculptures and time-based installations, I contend with my family’s past, my country’s present turmoil, and our planet’s uncertain future.
